*One position available. Qualified candidate may work in the Martinsburg, WV, Frederick, MD, Winchester, VA, or Woodstock, VA branch location. Position is eligible for a hybrid schedule *

Position Description: Crop Insurance Agent delivers effective insurance services to assure continued association growth and profitability in the crop insurance area. Provide quality, professional service to meet and/or exceed customer expectations. Maintains insurance product knowledge and expertise and enhance Horizon’s image and reputation. Promotes related services, actively participates in product referrals, business development and public relations activities, and maintains a favorable Farm Credit image. Shares product knowledge and contributes to the association’s overall level of knowledge concerning crop insurance. Follows detailed instructions under supervision of manager or mentor.

Areas of Responsibility include:

• Develops new business by identifying and pursuing prospective customers as well as expanding the relationships of existing customers.
• Educates customers on Crop Insurance related products with a goal of identifying appropriate risk management products & strategies.
• Services portfolio by providing sound risk management advice, while providing timely service to customers.
• Develops a personal marketing plan and works closely with Farm Credit employees within region to identify opportunities to promote additional Farm Credit products and services.
• Crop Insurance Agents are responsible for the servicing of crop insurance policies in assigned territory, which includes policy changes, collecting production history, acreage reporting, collection of outstanding premiums and reporting loss claims for policy holders.
• Crop Insurance agents actively participate in educational programs for customers, prospects, and are engaged with Horizon staff to share their product knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Agriculture, Economics, Finance or related field.
• Agricultural background in crop insurance and/or sufficient knowledge of agricultural and horticultural production preferred.
• May spend a significant amount of time meeting with customers, prospects, and referral generators.
• Basic analytical skills sufficient to analyze the needs of customers and recommend sound crop insurance and/or revenue protection coverage options.
• Proficient interpersonal relations, strong communication, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to be self-motivated with ability to work independently.
• Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment with prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer at times.
